I like to give credit where it is due, along with constructive criticism. The best part of this experience was the location and price compared to many hotels in midtown Manhattan. It was off the beaten path, but close to subway access and walking distance to our chosen theaters. Second best was the helpfulness when we arrived and asked to change rooms so we could have two double rooms adjacent to best accommodate our family. That may have affected the quality of the rooms however, since we could not compare with other rooms. The rooms and bathrooms were clean but tired-looking. One room smelled of mothballs. No bugs, however, as others have reported in the past, an accomplishment in older buildings. Friendly and responsive doormen and cleaning staff greeted us every day. Our bed mattress dipped in the middle, so sleep was not great and we are older, but sheets and pillows were nice, very clean and comfortable. We appreciated the blackout blinds and noise was not a big issue. We do like historic, older hotels when updated and the usual amenities are there. This could use more of that. It was the first time I had encountered soaps and shampoos in squeeze containers that were a challenge for older hands and too high for small children to reach. It made me wish I had brought my own soap. The tub/shower was slick and with no grab bar, so a real liability risk for the hotel and potentially dangerous for guests. It was nice to have a small refrigerator, utility sink and microwave, which we made use of. The location of the Belvedere Hotel helped make our total Manhattan experience wonderful and I might stay there again after shopping around because price and location matter.
The Belvedere celebrates 100 years this year 2026 - which is testament not only to the hotel’s service but also to its location, location, location! As an older hotel it does have its quirks, such as narrow elevators (one of the three is usually under repair at any given time!) and a very very tiny gym. On the plus side, free coffee in the mornings as of 7 am; a refillable water station in the business center; and most of all the service and charm of the hotel staff. The rooms are reasonable for a NYC hotel - and the location is excellent (2 blocks from Times Square as you come out and make a left; on the right within the same block is a small store where you can get a few quick sundries and snacks).
The shower floor was worn down so no non-slip surface and no grab bar. We had to ask them to replace a burned out lightbulb, give us a luggage stand and refill the lotion and shampoo dispensers. There are not enough outlets to charge devices. No USB ports. This hotel is in a great location and there are some great non-touristy restaurants nearby. It's not a long walk to the subway. The staff is friendly. So if they update the rooms and pay more attention to routine maintenance this could be a good hotel.
I recently stayed at this hotel and was disappointed by how run‑down it felt. The room and common areas were in clear need of repair and a much deeper clean. Basic facilities were either missing or extremely limited, both in the room and throughout the hotel, which made the stay far less comfortable than expected. Considering the condition and lack of amenities, the stay felt significantly overpriced. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
I stayed here more than ten years ago, and felt I had made a great discovery. Beautiful lobby. Connected to a very good churrasco restaurant with a discount for hotel guests. This is is a quiet small hotel, with usually good prices, tiny kitchens in every room, right off the theater district. Very cool. There was a wonderful, friendly Italian restaurant and bar, right next door. Still a great location, but the restaurant is gone, and the hotel has changed. Not drastically, but two of four elevators didn't work, and perhaps I had forgotten, but there is no coffee/tea in the room, so if you don't want to have to get dressed before your first cup, then you need to bring a coffee cup, some instant Starbucks and cream and/or sugar. You can also bring up to four cups in the handy carrier to your room's refrigerator to reheat in the microwave the next morning and you're set!!! The beds are exceptionally comfortable. Rooms are very clean, TV is very good, as are pull down shades. It's very convenient to the Winter Garden Theater. The HVAC was very loud to me, but no louder than the huge old hotel in the center of the theater district which I rated very favorably. Recommend ear plugs. My only complaint is that some employees are not as pleasant as they could be, as if they really don't like working there. It all depends on how important that is to you. The service and maintenance staff were very nice.
