Rooms do not match the photos on the site at all. All very outdated. Not atmospheric. I had to arrange an upgrade (161) myself with the manager. The room was awful (137) that they dare to rent it out (!) Water runs from both rooms into the bedroom after showering. Note: (mentioned on site) there is NO SHUTTLE & NO BIKE RENTAL. The location/view is nice. Food is mwah mwah. Staff in the restaurant are not in the mood. Overall not recommended.
The location is amazing, it is better if you have a car so you can get away from the hotel , go to town & visit stunning nearby beaches. This area is not good unless you can walk stairs steep hills etc . Large pool is very clean, I love salt water pools sun loungers only if you have lots of towels to cover them as quite tatty & in need of repair. Food was ok, we only had breakfast there We did eat at the beach cafe salad & fruit which was fine. Gym is very basic & no Air con Staff very friendly Filipino staff, nice bar staff at night. Reception staff helpful It is set in a mountain so lots of great walks , the sea is crystal clear , especially next to the large pool. Lots of cats & goats which I personally loved. The rooms & bathrooms need some TLC / maintenance, new plumbing but was adequate Pefkias town is lovely good shops bars cafe & restaurants, the best beach for us was Damononi beach as was stunningly beautiful. Throughly enjoyed my stay here , we ate out lots as we do not like hotel food.
I honestly don’t know where to begin because there were so many problems during our stay. We booked Kalypso Cretan Village Resort for two weeks, but after barely one week we had enough. We packed our things and left immediately because the conditions became too much to tolerate. From the moment we arrived, the hotel did not feel like a 4-star resort at all. The rooms were old, dirty, humid and had a terrible smell. We even changed rooms, thinking the second one would be better, but unfortunately it was more of the same. The cleanliness was honestly shocking. I personally saw housekeeping using the same mop and the same dirty water to clean multiple rooms. My eyes saw some terrible things during this stay, and I genuinely questioned how this level of hygiene could be acceptable in a hotel. Our sheets were not changed during our stay. When we asked about it, we were told that sheets are changed every three days, but that simply did not happen for us. The towels were also dirty and smelled bad, so we had to ask for replacements. The bathroom was so unpleasant that we asked housekeeping to clean it with chlorine. Instead, they brought us chlorine so we could clean the bathroom ourselves. Absolutely unbelievable. The attitude of the management made everything even worse. When we complained and showed the manager the condition of the room, instead of taking our concerns seriously, she sarcastically asked whether we were overreacting and told us that we should leave the door open. Why should guests leave their hotel room door open? What about privacy and security? The food was another major disappointment. The food was very bad, and the restaurant service was extremely slow. The waitresses often didn’t even come to ask what we wanted to drink, so we had to wait and try to get their attention ourselves. What was particularly uncomfortable was the restaurant manager. He seemed to spend a huge amount of time watching people’s tables and checking how much they were eating. On some occasions, he would even follow people around. It made us feel extremely uncomfortable. Guests should be able to eat their meals peacefully without feeling like someone is monitoring every bite they take. And the cups were sometimes dirty. There were times when I simply couldn’t drink my coffee because the cup was so dirty. This is basic hygiene — not something guests should have to worry about. There were also bees and ants everywhere, which added to the feeling that the resort was not properly maintained. The internet situation was absolutely ridiculous. The Wi-Fi was basically unusable, and we couldn’t properly call home or work online because of the terrible connection. We were supposed to work during our stay, so this was a serious problem. We were told that the signal was coming from another island, and to get any kind of phone signal we had to leave the resort and go outside. Imagine paying for a resort and having to walk outside just to make a phone call. The reception was also very poorly organized. There was constant confusion and miscommunication, and because of their own mistake and failure to properly check their system, they even tried to make us pay extra money. Communication in English was also very difficult. The “all-inclusive” package was another disappointment. The drinks were tiny, and cold coffees were not included. I’ve stayed at all-inclusive resorts before, and this was the first time I experienced something like this. Even the beach experience was disappointing. We were surprised to discover that we had to pay for the sunbeds on the beach because apparently the beach area was operated by another department — even though the same staff were working there. This made absolutely no sense to us. Even worse, we saw people who were not staying at the hotel using the hotel’s swimming pool for free. We had never experienced anything like this before. Paying guests should not have to watch people who aren’t even staying at the resort freely using the facilities they are paying for. Completely unacceptable. The air conditioning also did not always work properly, there are very few activities, and the entire resort feels extremely outdated. During our stay, my daughter also became very sick and developed an infection, which made the whole experience even more worrying for us. Given the hygiene problems we personally witnessed, it was extremely concerning. The only thing this resort genuinely has going for it is the beautiful beach, the views and the natural surroundings. Those are beautiful. Unfortunately, beautiful scenery cannot compensate for poor hygiene, terrible service, bad food, unreliable internet and extremely outdated facilities. We were supposed to stay for 14 days. We couldn’t even finish the first week. We left. Immediately. This was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. The “4-star” rating does not match the reality we experienced whatsoever. If you are expecting a clean, well-organized, properly maintained 4-star resort with good service and a genuine all-inclusive experience, I would strongly recommend looking somewhere else.
