Unfortunately, our stay at Hotel Corona Roja in Gran Canaria was extremely disappointing. In our experience, the hotel is very outdated, and both the building and furniture are in serious need of refurbishment. One of the biggest issues was the lack of air conditioning throughout the hotel. The temperature inside was unbearably hot and, at times, it genuinely felt like being in a sauna. We went down for breakfast on our first morning, but it was so hot that we couldn’t even enjoy our food and had to leave. The pool area was also disappointing, with only a few umbrellas available, meaning there was very limited opportunity to sit in the shade. In such hot weather, having adequate shaded areas should be essential. Overall, the condition of the hotel, the extreme heat and the lack of basic comfort made our stay very unpleasant. Unfortunately, this was the worst hotel experience we have ever had, and we would not recommend Hotel Corona Roja based on our experience.

I have just arrived back from here. Had a 2 Bedroom apartment. This was very spacious for 4 adults. Cleaners come in 5 days a week to clea, they were brilliant. The pool area is clean daily. There are plenty of sun beds , you can get one at any time of the day, but not many parasols. Breakfast and Lunch are the best meals of the day there is plenty of choice but my family struggled to find anything to eat at dinner. The hotel is doing renovations and sometimes you can here this whilst around the pool. There is plenty of choice of drinks on the all inclusive. The only let down is there isn't any entertainment, even just a couple of nights a week would be good. You are 5 minutes from the beach and bus station. This is a budget hotel and found it great value for money.

We stayed at Hotel Corona Roja for 9 nights and, overall, we had an excellent experience and enjoyed our holiday to the fullest. If you are hiring a car, as we did, the hotel offers private parking. We paid for a week, which was very convenient. Wi-Fi is also available for an additional charge, with the price depending on the number of days and devices. The swimming pool is fairly standard, but we really enjoyed using it. The staff were absolutely incredible and always very friendly and helpful. We stayed on the 13th floor and had amazing views. Our apartment had also been refurbished, which made our stay even more comfortable. One thing we did miss was air conditioning. Unfortunately, we arrived during a period of calima, so the lack of air conditioning did affect us, especially when the temperature was high. We booked all inclusive, and you certainly won’t go hungry. My husband and I are pescatarians, while our children eat meat, and we found that our children had more options than we did. There was soup every day, including vegetable, fish and chicken soup, and our children enjoyed chicken, meat, liver and lamb. On one day there wasn’t any fish available, so we spoke to the staff and explained our situation. They immediately prepared some tuna for us, which was absolutely delicious. We really appreciated how accommodating they were. One area that could definitely be improved is the food labelling. The signs didn’t always provide enough information about allergens or ingredients. For example, a salad might simply be labelled “Caesar salad” without clearly stating whether it contained meat, nuts or gluten. It would be very helpful to have clearer labels showing whether dishes are vegetarian, contain nuts, or are gluten-free. I think this is particularly important for guests with allergies or specific dietary requirements. Drinks are available from 11am until 11pm, which was convenient. The lady who cleaned our apartment was absolutely wonderful. She was always lovely and kept the apartment clean, and towels were changed regularly. We were also informed that the hotel towels cannot be used at the beach or swimming pool. The hotel is in a good location. However, we decided to hire a car through Cicar, which allowed us to explore much more of Gran Canaria. We visited some beautiful places and beaches, including Amadores, Anfi del Mar, Puerto de Mogán, Pico de las Nieves ,dunes,and Lago Taurito Water Park, among others. There wasn’t really any entertainment at the hotel, but if you enjoy walking, you can head towards the dunes and then relax in one of the bars near the Hard Rock Café, where there is plenty going on. I would also like to mention an experience we had towards the end of our stay. The day before we left, there was an incident involving my 9 year old autistic son, who loves animals and was feeding a pigeon some bread. A gentleman shouted at my son, which I found upsetting. I spoke to him respectfully and explained the situation. As it was our last full day, I didn’t want to create any further problems, but I do think it would be positive for the hotel to show that it supports and welcomes neurodivergent guests and their families. Greater awareness and understanding can make a huge difference. Despite these few points, we genuinely had an excellent holiday. We enjoyed every day, the staff were fantastic, our apartment and views were wonderful, and the hotel provided us with a great base for exploring Gran Canaria. Overall, we would happily stay at Hotel Corona Roja again.

MICE !!! Room 314 next to the lift at reception is directly above the restaurant and you can hear the mice every night running around the wall and ceiling space, I assume this is due to current building renovations but reception staff deny any issues but happily exchange your room for an upgrade !! Oh … beers s**t

We recently returned from a 7-night all-inclusive family stay in Gran Canaria Corona Roja hotel . I’ll admit I was really nervous before arriving after reading some negative reviews online, but overall, it turned out to be a decent, standard budget experience for what you pay! Location & Views The Highlight: The location of this hotel is its biggest selling point—it's simply stunning! It's so convenient to the beach, local restaurants, entertainment, and shops. Everything is within easy reach, and there is a bus station right nearby. The Room: We stayed in Room 1404 on the 14th floor (a 2-bedroom apartment). It is definitely an older, traditional room with dated furniture—it hasn't been recently refurbished. However, it was completely functional, very clean, and towels were refreshed every second day. The view from the 14th floor was absolute perfection! Staff & Customer Service The service here was a bit of a mixed bag depending on who was working: Restaurant & Reception: The restaurant staff were uniformly lovely and hard-working. Check-in was smooth thanks to a very nice young man on reception. However, whenever we had simple, normal questions later in the week, some of the female reception staff made us feel like an inconvenience just for asking. Bar Area: Early in the week, two older bartenders were quite rude—literally slamming drinks down and making us feel like we were in their way. Fortunately, toward the end of the week, some fantastic younger bar staff (in their early 20s) took over who were polite, warm, and friendly. Food & Drinks Given our mixed group (two adults who eat anything, one kid who eats everything, and one very picky eater), the food was a pleasant surprise: Breakfast: The exact same selection every morning, but solid! Plenty of European cheeses/salami, yogurts, cereals, churros, pastries, and a hot section for an English/Irish breakfast. Lunch & Dinner: A modest setup with about 10 hot choices, a salad bar, and fruit/desserts. Out of 7 days, only one dinner missed the mark, but there were always chips available to keep the kids happy. Pool Area & Maintenance Cleanliness: The outdoor pool area felt a bit neglected. The sunbeds and side tables were dirty (I actually took our side table over to the outdoor shower to wash it off myself!). The water got quite cloudy by late afternoon, and there was a sour smell around parts of the building exterior. Safety & Towels: There are no lifeguards and no entertainment, so you need to watch your kids closely. The pool area stays accessible outside official hours (our kids swam past 8:30 PM). Tip: Bring or buy your own pool towels—we bought 4 great quality ones for €30 at the shops by the bus station right next door and brought them home with us! Overall Verdict Is it luxury? No. But if you manage your expectations for a budget, lower-star all-inclusive, it does the job. Between the unbeatable location, incredible views, and decent food, we had a really lovely family week!
