I honestly don’t know where to begin because there were so many problems during our stay. We booked Kalypso Cretan Village Resort for two weeks, but after barely one week we had enough. We packed our things and left immediately because the conditions became too much to tolerate. From the moment we arrived, the hotel did not feel like a 4-star resort at all. The rooms were old, dirty, humid and had a terrible smell. We even changed rooms, thinking the second one would be better, but unfortunately it was more of the same. The cleanliness was honestly shocking. I personally saw housekeeping using the same mop and the same dirty water to clean multiple rooms. My eyes saw some terrible things during this stay, and I genuinely questioned how this level of hygiene could be acceptable in a hotel. Our sheets were not changed during our stay. When we asked about it, we were told that sheets are changed every three days, but that simply did not happen for us. The towels were also dirty and smelled bad, so we had to ask for replacements. The bathroom was so unpleasant that we asked housekeeping to clean it with chlorine. Instead, they brought us chlorine so we could clean the bathroom ourselves. Absolutely unbelievable. The attitude of the management made everything even worse. When we complained and showed the manager the condition of the room, instead of taking our concerns seriously, she sarcastically asked whether we were overreacting and told us that we should leave the door open. Why should guests leave their hotel room door open? What about privacy and security? The food was another major disappointment. The food was very bad, and the restaurant service was extremely slow. The waitresses often didn’t even come to ask what we wanted to drink, so we had to wait and try to get their attention ourselves. What was particularly uncomfortable was the restaurant manager. He seemed to spend a huge amount of time watching people’s tables and checking how much they were eating. On some occasions, he would even follow people around. It made us feel extremely uncomfortable. Guests should be able to eat their meals peacefully without feeling like someone is monitoring every bite they take. And the cups were sometimes dirty. There were times when I simply couldn’t drink my coffee because the cup was so dirty. This is basic hygiene — not something guests should have to worry about. There were also bees and ants everywhere, which added to the feeling that the resort was not properly maintained. The internet situation was absolutely ridiculous. The Wi-Fi was basically unusable, and we couldn’t properly call home or work online because of the terrible connection. We were supposed to work during our stay, so this was a serious problem. We were told that the signal was coming from another island, and to get any kind of phone signal we had to leave the resort and go outside. Imagine paying for a resort and having to walk outside just to make a phone call. The reception was also very poorly organized. There was constant confusion and miscommunication, and because of their own mistake and failure to properly check their system, they even tried to make us pay extra money. Communication in English was also very difficult. The “all-inclusive” package was another disappointment. The drinks were tiny, and cold coffees were not included. I’ve stayed at all-inclusive resorts before, and this was the first time I experienced something like this. Even the beach experience was disappointing. We were surprised to discover that we had to pay for the sunbeds on the beach because apparently the beach area was operated by another department — even though the same staff were working there. This made absolutely no sense to us. Even worse, we saw people who were not staying at the hotel using the hotel’s swimming pool for free. We had never experienced anything like this before. Paying guests should not have to watch people who aren’t even staying at the resort freely using the facilities they are paying for. Completely unacceptable. The air conditioning also did not always work properly, there are very few activities, and the entire resort feels extremely outdated. During our stay, my daughter also became very sick and developed an infection, which made the whole experience even more worrying for us. Given the hygiene problems we personally witnessed, it was extremely concerning. The only thing this resort genuinely has going for it is the beautiful beach, the views and the natural surroundings. Those are beautiful. Unfortunately, beautiful scenery cannot compensate for poor hygiene, terrible service, bad food, unreliable internet and extremely outdated facilities. We were supposed to stay for 14 days. We couldn’t even finish the first week. We left. Immediately. This was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. The “4-star” rating does not match the reality we experienced whatsoever. If you are expecting a clean, well-organized, properly maintained 4-star resort with good service and a genuine all-inclusive experience, I would strongly recommend looking somewhere else.
Our experience at Kalypso Cretan Village Resort was absolutely horrible and extremely disappointing. I genuinely do not understand how this place can call itself a 4-star resort. The rooms are extremely old, dirty, full of humidity, and smell horrible. The bathroom had a disgusting smell, and the condition of the room was simply unacceptable. We even had to change rooms once, but unfortunately, the problems did not disappear. I was travelling with a baby, so I had to spend a lot of time in the room. However, I literally could not stay inside because the smell and humidity were unbearable. After I explained that I could no longer stay in the room, I asked the manager to come and personally inspect the room and see the condition for herself. Her response was shocking. Instead of taking the situation seriously, she sarcastically asked me if I was overreacting and told me that I was supposed to leave the door open. Excuse me? Why should I have to leave my hotel room door open? Where is my privacy? I am paying to stay in a private hotel room, not to sit with my door open because the hotel cannot provide a properly ventilated and clean room. This response was extremely disrespectful and completely unacceptable, especially when I was travelling with a baby and explaining that I could not tolerate the conditions inside the room. The housekeeping was another disaster. The towels they provided were dirty and smelled bad. I asked for clean towels and asked the housekeeping staff to properly clean the bathroom with chlorine. And what happened? She literally brought me chlorine so I could clean the bathroom myself! I have never experienced anything so ridiculous in a hotel. We also asked the manager about changing the bed sheets. She told us that they change the sheets every 3 days. They never changed them during our stay. So even the basic housekeeping standards were not being followed. The reception was equally frustrating. There seemed to be no proper organization or reliable computer system. There was constant miscommunication between the reception staff. Because of their own mistake, they failed to check something properly in their “system” and then tried to make US pay extra money. We had to argue about something that was caused entirely by their own lack of organization. The English communication was also extremely poor, which made everything even more difficult. And then there is the so-called “ALL-INCLUSIVE” package. Cold coffees were not included, which is something I have never encountered before at an all-inclusive hotel. The drinks that were included were served in ridiculously small portions. For the price we paid, this was simply not acceptable. The facilities are very old and badly maintained, and sometimes the air conditioning didn’t work properly. There are also very few activities, so there isn’t much to do at the resort. Let’s be very clear: this is NOT what I expect from a 4-star resort. A 4-star hotel should provide clean rooms, fresh towels and sheets, properly functioning facilities, professional staff, good communication, and basic respect for guests’ privacy. None of these things were properly delivered during our stay. The ONLY positive things about this resort are the beautiful beach and the views. That’s it. The location and scenery may be beautiful, but beautiful views cannot compensate for dirty rooms, horrible smells, poor housekeeping, broken air conditioning, disorganized reception, inadequate communication, and staff who make sarcastic comments instead of addressing legitimate complaints. This place desperately needs renovation, proper management, better housekeeping, better organization, and basic customer-service training. We paid good money for this holiday and expected a 4-star experience. What we received was nowhere near 4-star quality. I would NOT recommend this resort, especially to families with babies or young children. Think twice before booking — the photos and the “4-star” label do not reflect the reality we experienced.
Toto Toto Toto was the best and made our stay very good!
