We’ve just returned from a two-week all-inclusive stay at the Belair, and overall I have mixed feelings. There were some definite positives, but also several things that disappointed us. The positives We were given a free upgrade to what the hotel called an Executive Room, which was a lovely surprise. Our room had a pool and sea view, was a good size, and had a large shower room. It was also spotlessly clean. There are quite a few different levels around the hotel, with lifts, slopes and steps to contend with, but overall we were very happy with our room. The food in the main restaurant was excellent, with plenty of choice throughout our stay. This was definitely one of the highlights of the holiday. We also appreciated the quieter pool area, which was much more relaxed and suited us far better. Quite an issue here with the sun beds though as a large number were broken. The negatives For us, the hotel seemed to be aimed more towards a younger clientele, with lots of young couples, families and groups. Of course, this isn’t necessarily a fault, but it just wasn’t the atmosphere we were looking for. The constant background music, particularly the heavy drum and bass-style music, became quite tiring and made us feel that we had chosen the wrong hotel. My biggest disappointment, however, was how I felt we were treated as all-inclusive guests. After two or three days, all our drinks were served in plastic cups. We were told there was a problem with the glass washer, but it was noticeable that guests on half board who paid for their drinks were still being served in proper glasses. On one occasion, I ordered and paid separately for a bottle of soft drink and was still given a plastic cup simply because I was wearing an all-inclusive wristband. I found this particularly frustrating. The soft drinks from the machines were far too syrupy for our taste, and we noticed many people leaving them. Quite a few guests, ourselves included, ended up going to the supermarket to buy cans instead. The cocktails were another disappointment. Even the premium cocktails, which were made using non-branded spirits, were very poor. In fact, the alcohol content in most of the drinks seemed almost non-existent unless you paid extra for branded spirits. The entertainment, which was brought in from outside, also didn’t feel what I would expect from a hotel advertising itself as four-star. That said, Alex and his team deserve credit. They worked extremely hard, and the fire show they put on was genuinely very good. Location The location also didn’t live up to our expectations based on previous reviews. The road outside the hotel was nose-to-tail with traffic from morning until night, and there didn’t appear to be a safe crossing point anywhere close to the hotel. The beach directly opposite the hotel was also disappointing compared with beaches further along in either direction. The resort itself didn’t have a huge amount to offer either, with mainly a few restaurants and not much else. Overall There were certainly things we enjoyed about the Belair, particularly our upgraded room, the cleanliness, the excellent food and the quieter pool area. However, taking everything into account, we felt that the hotel and location simply weren’t right for us. The atmosphere, treatment of all-inclusive guests, drinks and location were significant disappointments, and unfortunately we wouldn’t choose this hotel again.
We arrived at about 2am, greeted by a lovely man on reception. Our room and the whole hotel was spotless! Staff are really friendly and efficient. My only complaint is the bedroom doors slam shut, so we were woken up several times! Huge choice of food in the restaurant! Really enjoyed our stay!
